Homelessness In Dallas

As of 2023, there are nearly 4,500 homeless individuals living on the streets of Dallas. They work with us, sleep with us, eat with us, live with us. They sleep on sidewalks and in tent cities, and are subject to the cruelties of weather and city propositions. They are friends, family, and neighbors.

We believe it is our calling to help them in any way possible.

Bring The Light believes that everyone has a right to live, and that life includes health, home, and happiness. Together we can make a difference, whether it’s through small acts of service or major systemic change. All human beings have the right to security regardless if they are sick, disabled, elderly, or unemployed. As Dallas’ issues with homelessness continue to grow, Bring The Light continues to provide real solutions and prayerful results. We work together by giving back to the community through our ministries, and our congregation is comprised of some of the kindest people in our area.

By partnering with other non-profit organizations in Dallas, we further our mission to serve, feed, and disciple those who struggle. As Jesus Christ Himself said in the Book of Matthew, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matt. 25:40). It is the purpose of our donors, volunteers, partners, and prayer warriors to spread His doctrine through kindness and faithfulness, to feed, save, and house those who cannot help themselves.

At Bring the Light Ministries, we are dedicated to illuminating the lives of the lost, broken, and needy. Through acts of service, spiritual discipleship, and communal outreach, we can provide food, shelter, and prayer to the most vulnerable. The people on the streets of Dallas need us now more than ever, and that necessity comes in many forms, whether it’s food, clothing, or housing. Along with other essential needs such as personal hygiene and health, Bring the Light Ministries can light the way for thousands of people.

There are many reasons why a person becomes homeless, and most of them are invisible to us. The average houseless person in America becomes homeless out of circumstances beyond their control—regardless of what led them to their current misfortune, it is our duty to uplift, support, and heal. Whether it’s age, joblessness, or disability, many things can prevent a person from engaging in society, such as working or paying rent. Plus, their lives are made more difficult by the national trend to criminalize homelessness, whether it’s punishing loitering, destroying tent cities, or discouraging them from asking for help or means.

Why are there so many Dallas homeless charities? Dallas is just one of many American cities filled with people who struggle with homelessness. It is the failure of our city to provide basic human needs for its people, and Bring the Light Ministries believes that it is our calling to give to those who most require it. We could not accomplish anything without all of the donors, volunteers, partners, and prayer warriors that comprise us; BTL knows that through your prayerful support and material kindness, we can ultimately get people off the streets and treat them according to Christ’s example.

Committed To Serve Through Outreach

There are dozens of non-profit organizations and city initiatives working together with Bring the Light Ministries to reduce, prevent, and treat homelessness throughout Dallas. By providing real solutions and meeting people as they are, BTL and others continue to develop ways to help the homeless, whether that’s providing food and temporary housing or working with the city to come up with answers for habitable living environments.

God tells us that it’s up to us to help those in need, and through our outreach programs we can make an incredible impact in the Dallas community. Join us today and see how you can help increase that outreach; we are always accepting additional help and more smiling faces!

Whether it’s our Tuesday Pasta Day Outreach or the first of the month New Hope Baptist Meal Outreach, there are dozens of opportunities to join our program. As they say, “many hands make light work,” and that’s never been more true than when our volunteers help to increase our impact. We put together hundreds of meals for the homeless in South Dallas, including lunch bag meals with silverware and napkins. Plus, giving back to the community is never a chore. Our outreach days are packed with opportunities to serve, and with our dynamic clean-up crews and mobile foodbank teams, we can enjoy ourselves and help the community at the same time. God gives us a chance to multiply our bounties and show Dallas that we care, and giving back has never been easier.

Overcoming Homelessness Through Love & Action

Bring the Light holds several core values that help us uplift the needy within Dallas. Through authenticity, building relationships, spreading generosity, and putting the Word of God first, we are able to be a shining light in our community. As Disciples of Christ, we believe it is our duty to help contribute to and grow the Dallas community in any way we can, whether it’s through acts of service or prayerful connection.

“Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many” (1 Corinthians 12:14). By working alongside other non-profit organizations and city offices, we are able to be the change agents necessary to uplift the most needy in our community. Bring the Light believes in real strategic initiatives that ensure all of our homeless neighbors receive food, shelter, and housing. God calls on us to lead through service, and by that calling BTL can overcome barriers and grant people better lives. Unsheltered individuals deserve our help, kindness, and compassion, and together we can truly make a difference in the world. Together we can end homelessness in Dallas and provide a better life for all of our neighbors.
